Mountain View County councillors are expected to vote this week on whether to move forward with construction upgrades on the Acme Road in the county's far south side.During last week's Policies and Priorities meeting, councillors passed a motion calling on council to vote on the matter at the Nov. 28 council meeting.“We'll do the project over two years,” said Reeve Bruce Beattie. “We'll do the gravel base the first year and the second year go back and chip seal.”The total cost for the first year of the project will be about $7.1 million, which would be covered by provincial MSI funding, he said.“There will be another budget item next year for the chip seal,” he said. The project would cover the road from Highway 22 to Spreters Hill, located between Rge. Rd. 30 and 31.Planning for the upgrade of the Acme Road has been underway for several years, with council approving the project during 2011 budget deliberations. The total cost of paving the entire 11.2-kilometre stretch of the Acme Road between Highway 22 and Highway 766 had been estimated to be $16.4 million. The county has been pooling provincial MSI grant money for the past several years in preparation for the project.About 50 people attended a county-sponsored open house in October regarding the proposed upgrade of the road.“We clearly heard that people want this project,” Coun. Patricia McKean said following the meeting. “The community is very concerned about the safety of this road and they would like to see this project done.”
