The Mountain View County agricultural service board has reviewed its proposed 2015 operational budget and passed a motion to have it forwarded to county council.

The motion came during the board's recent regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

The 2015 budget, which is a projection of revenues and expenses, calls for total revenue of $269,250, up from $260,250 in 2014. That increase includes grants of $210,000 compared with $200,000 last year.

On the expense side, the budget includes $170,000 for roadside spraying, $126,000 for mechanical brush control, $105,000 for grass mowing, $90,000 for weed inspection, $25,000 for the toadflax program, $6,000 for urban weed control, and $17,000 for pest control.

Expenses for programs include $35,000 for riparian fencing, $15,000 for county workshops, $15,000 for agricultural recycling (plastics and wire) and $25,000 for agricultural community funding projects.

Jeff Holmes, director of legislative services, says the budget was prepared with input from the agricultural service board, county council and administration.

The budget will now go before council for consideration.

The Mountain View County agricultural service board includes Eric Iversen (chair/public member), Brian Rodger (vice-chair/public member), Brent Buschert (public member) and county councillors Jeremy Sayer, Duncan Milne and Ken Heck.
