Mountain View County (MVC) Division 4 councillor Bruce Beattie has been appointed as reeve of municipality for the next year.

The move came during the Oct. 25 organizational meeting in council chambers, with councillor Angela Aalbers nominating Beattie and all councillors voting in favour.

The reeve is the principal spokesperson for the municipality, chairing all council meetings and sitting on all committees.

Angela Aalbers was appointed deputy reeve. She defeated councillor Duncan Milne in a secret ballot of all councillors.

The deputy reeve acts in the reeve's place if he or she is not available.

Beattie, who served as reeve throughout the 2013-2017 term, told his fellow councillors that he looks forward to good work over the next four years.

"We have a tremendous staff to work with," said Beattie. "And we've got a great county to work with as well. I'm really looking forward to the next year as reeve and to the next four years as councillor.

"I think we have lots to do and we can look forward to our new CAO (Jeff Holmes, who is replacing retiring CAO Tony Martens) starting in the spring. We've got a good four years to work together."

For her part, Aalbers said she is "very honoured" to be appointed deputy reeve.

"I'm really looking forward to supporting this council," said Aalbers. "I think we have a great council and I am really looking forward to the next four years.

"We can do a lot of good for this county, and for our surrounding counties and our urban municipalities."

The reeve and deputy reeve are appointed on a yearly basis in MVC.

Beattie was first appointed reeve in 2011.
