The Century Farm Award was presented last week in Mountain View County to the Bennett family who live on the NW and SW 23-29-28-W4 in Division 1.George Daniel Bennett established the farm in 1912, travelling by train with his brother and their families from South Dakota, which they left due to drought, Coun. Kevin Good noted in his brief presentation remarks.“The farm has seen many changes, big gardens, chickens and turkeys, milk cows, beef cattle, sheep, pigs, and grain,” Tom and Kathy Bennett wrote in a statement for the ceremony.“Now there are smaller gardens, a larger cow/calf operation, and grain varieties. The farm site has been rebuilt by Tom's family, with added land, new buildings, corrals, fences and windbreaks,” the couple wrote.“After 100 years, the farm is still a work in progress and we appreciate the location our ancestors chose.”The family celebrated the occasion on the farm on Canada Day.
