DIDSBURY - It was a big weekend for Essentials for our Community last weekend as the organization, which helps provide services for those less fortunate, held three separate fundraisers.
On Friday, August 16, Essentials held an Ethiopian Culture Night at the Country Nook Restaurant in Didsbury.
"With the help of local resident Tseday Fishea, the restaurant was transformed into a Taste of Ethiopia with food, music, dance and traditions," said Essentials chair Sheree Andrews. "The guests all had a great time and over $1,000 was raised."
The following day, the group held a car wash at Gil's Truck and Auto in Didsbury.
"Organizer Ben Verville was able to bring together local business to support it and even had the Sizzlers' food truck there," she said. "It was perfect weather and we had a good turnout. Over $200 was raised."
The third fundraiser was an auction for a bird house, which was made and donated by local artist Lody Vandenberg. The winning bidder was Eric Kirk at $250.
Andrews said all the money raised during the weekend will go to feeding local families.
"We are always happy to connect with the community through our fundraisers," she said.
Essentials will be having an open house at the Didsbury Train Station on Sept. 5 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with other community resource partners.
"We want to showcase what Essential for our Community does in town and what are plans are for the future," she said.
