The Alberta Emergency Management Agency issued an emergency alert around 6:45 p.m Saturday warning of the possibility of rotating power outages in the evening.

"Extreme cold resulting in high power demand has placed the Alberta grid at a high risk of rotating power outages this evening," a part of the radio and television broadcast, along with social media post said.

The alert in effect for Alberta.
