A review of Mountain View County's insurance policies has confirmed that the 2009 arson fire that destroyed the Big Prairie Bridge near Cremona is not covered.
On Sept. 26 council passed a motion requesting administration seek a review of the county's insurance.
"Details of the general liability and property policies were provided to Don Zavislake, insurance consultant with Insurance Claims Consultants Inc., who confirmed that there were no provisions in either policy that would provide coverage for bridges,î administration said in a note to council.
In a letter presented to council at last week's council meeting, Zavislake said, in part: "With respect to the bridge fire, Section 4(a) on page 10 states: This policy does not insure land, water (or) retaining walls and bridges.î
On Feb. 13 councillors passed a motion accepting the comments from Zavislake for information.
The arson that destroyed the bridge remains unsolved and anyone with information is being asked to call Crime Stoppers or Didsbury RCMP.
Construction of a new $2.8-million Big Prairie Bridge over the Little Red Deer River northwest of Cremona has been put on hold until spring.
