The Mork family has been recognized for one hundred years on an original farmstead in Mountain View County.

Family members were presented with the county’s Century Farm Plaque during a ceremony in council chambers on April 24.

The family’s farm is located in Division 2 in the Water Valley-Cremona area at NE 31-29-4-W5.

Reeve Bruce Beattie outlined some of the Mork family’s history in the region.

“Anton Olson, Pauline Mork and their family emigrated from Norway to the northwestern U.S. before moving to Canada. In 1902 they filed for a homestead in Mountain View County on the SE 6-30-4-5W, which was occupied by the family in 1904. In 1918, Anton and Pauline bought the NE 31-29-4-54 and this quarter became their farmstead. Roy and Lulu Mork bought the farmstead from Pauline (Anton’s widow) in 1946. Deryl Mork took over the quarter section in 2007 after his mother’s passing. Deryl and his son are now joint tenants of this quarter section. They currently have cattle and grow hay.”

During the ceremony, Division 2 councillor Grey Harris called the award a fitting tribute.

“It truly is a family operation,” said Harris. “This is a well, well deserved award.”

Reeve Beattie congratulated the family on behalf of Mountain View County.
