DIDSBURY - It was a packed house on Sept. 23 at the Didsbury Train Station as the Didsbury & District Chamber of Commerce announced all the nominees for its annual business awards at a luncheon.

There were 81 nominations in total with 33 different businesses/people nominated for eight categories, said Kim Kennedy-Forsythe, events coordinator and communications officer for the Didsbury chamber.

Laurie Klassen, vice-president of the chamber and branch manager of Didsbury ATB, said the event went very well.

"It's really exciting," said Klassen of all the nominations. "This is a program I sort of came up with in the last year or two. We've been working really hard to promote it. We want it to be what the community believes to be the best customer service, the best non-profit, all of that. We want it to come from our customers."

Klassen said having nominations come from the community is much more meaningful than decisions coming from a committee.

"I know it means more to me as a branch manager to know that I was nominated or my staff was nominated because someone in the community likes what we're doing," she said.

This year's Didsbury chamber business awards gala will be held Oct. 27 at the Didsbury Elks Hall.
