The Mountain View County policies and priorities committee has been given an update on some of the plans of Mountain View Seniors' Housing (MVSH) over the coming months.

CAO Sam Smalldon and board chairman Bruce Beattie appeared before the committee at its regularly scheduled meeting on May 2.

MVSH owns and operates seniors' lodges and other facilities in the county.

“We want to make sure that we provide long-term solutions to our housing for our seniors in Mountain View County,” said Beattie, who is also Mountain View County reeve. “That is the goal of Mountain View Seniors' Housing and the goal of our board is to remain a stable organization.”

MVSH officials will be meeting with municipal councils and others over the summer with the goal of developing a new business plan for the organization, to “show exactly what we believe is the best solution and outcome for seniors' housing in the county,” he said.

MVSH has been running well, Smalldon told the committee.

“We believe we’ve improved our accountability and our integrity, certainly from the financial point of view and on our ability to deliver,” he said. “Our ability to deliver is a level of confidence that we believe we’ve improved both on operating and on capital projects.

“We believe that our approach has been to be proactive and we believe at the present time we have a strong not-for-profit.”

Developing a new business plan will be a good move for MVSH, he said.

“It’s not a case of any crisis but we do believe that we need to reset our organization for the future,” he said. “How can we be better? We can move forward with a new business plan and model.”

MVSH officials expect to report back to county council in the fall.
