Council approves FCSS funding

Mountain View County council has approved Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) grant funding applications totalling $136,571 for local groups and organizations. The approvals came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

Mountain View County council has approved Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) grant funding applications totalling $136,571 for local groups and organizations. The approvals came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting. Requests totalling $207,705 were made to the county.

FCSS is an 80/20 funding partnership between the government of Alberta and participating municipalities.

“Under the program, communities design and deliver social programs that are preventative in nature, to promote and enhance well-being among individuals, families and communities,” administration said.

“The programs developed are intended to help individuals within their community to adopt healthy lifestyles, thereby improving the quality of life and building the capacity to prevent and/or deal with crisis situations should they arise.”

Grants approved include the following: Accredited Supports to the Community ($5,000), Big Brothers Big Sisters Innisfail ($5,000), Boys and Girls Club of Olds and Area ($9,000), Chinook Arch Victims Services ($13,000), Chinook's Edge School Division family school wellness ($35,000), Cremona FCSS ($10,000), Didsbury and District Senior Support Association ($7,500), and Mountain View Parent Link Centre ($11,095).

Carstairs FCSS received $22,204, Cremona $33,628, Didsbury $32,844, Olds $38,556 and Sundre $47,768.

Total 2016 funding from the province was $342,984 and from the county $85,746, for an overall total of $428,730.
