OLDS — The Mountain View Food Bank (MVFB) will likely move into its new quarters in April, MVFB president Tayva Graham says.
The building is located at 4829 50th St. in Olds. It became superfluous when the Olds Fire Department moved to a new hall on 65th Street in 2013.
The two-storey building contains a mix of office space, double height truck bays, kitchen and multi-purpose areas.
The food bank is expected to occupy most of the bottom floor.
“I think our move should be happening, probably in the spring. We’re looking at before May. Some time in April we’ll be moving over there,” Graham said during an interview with the Albertan.
“They’re starting to get some preliminary structures done. The town gave us a Mountain View Power grant which is going to help subsidize the exterior reinforcements we need to do.
“That’s going to be a huge help, especially as our numbers are surging. It’s nice to kind of be able to keep as much money reserved for food (as possible).”
The other tenants in the building, the Community Lending Shelf and Coats For Everyone, are occupying the upper floor for the most part. They moved into the building at the end of November 2024.
