Council OK's land use re-designations

Mountain View County (MVC) council has approved the re-designation of properties in divisions 2, 4 and 5. The changes were approved during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

Mountain View County (MVC) council has approved the re-designation of properties in divisions 2, 4 and 5. The changes were approved during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

Councillors approved the re-designation of an approximately 10-acre property in the Jackson neighbourhood (at NW 23-30-2-5) from agricultural district to institutional, educational and cultural district.

Council also approved the re-designation of an adjacent property from agricultural district to residential farmstead district.

The property owner is the West Zion Mennonite Church, David John and Kella Diane Sharek, and Dwayne and Shannon Fulton.

The purpose of the re-designation is to realign the property boundaries.

(Coun. Dwayne Fulton recused himself from the discussion and vote on the re-designation).

Meanwhile, council approved the re-designation of a property in the Harmattan neighbourhood.

The property involved is located at the intersection of Twp. Rd. 320 (the Bergen Road) and Rge. Rd. 40 approximately 25 kilometres northwest of Didsbury.

The re-designation from agriculture to country residential will create a new country residential parcel within an unsubdivided quarter section where a family member would like to build a dwelling in the next three years, administration said in a briefing note to council.

Meanwhile, council approved the re-designation of a property in the Bearberry-Coal Camp neighbourhood from agricultural district to agricultural district 2.

The 65.63-acre parcel is located at NW 20-33-7-5.

“The proposal is to create the first parcel to be removed from a previously unsubdivided quarter section,” administration said.

“The applicants would like to create a new agricultural parcel for a family member. Administration can support a resolution of approval for this proposal. The application complies with county policies and has year-round legal and physical access.

“The creation of the new parcel should not have any negative impact on the surrounding agricultural practices.”

Deputy Reeve Angela Aalbers did not attend the March 14 council meeting.
