Council receives survey results

Mountain View County councillors have received the results of a recent online survey conducted by the municipality to gauge where residents receive their information about goings-on in the county.

The 2019 Getting Information Out To You Survey received a total of 172 responses, with the 30- to 42-year-old age group providing the most responses, followed by the 55- to 64-year-old age group.

Seventy-four per cent of respondents said they currently receive and access county information regularly.

Asked how they receive their information, 65 per cent said through the Mountain View Gazette, 30 per cent from the county’s website, 30 per cent from the county’s social media, 20 per cent from the local radio station, eight per cent by calling a councillor or the county office, five per cent through workshops and open houses, 20 per cent from word of mouth and other residents.

Another question asked, “Assuming you want to receive or access MVC information, what are the best channels to access this information?”

In response, 54 per cent said the county’s social media, 44 per cent said the county’s website, 44 per cent cent said the newspaper, and 44 per cent said scheduled direct physical or email mailouts.

Another question asked, “What formats do you want to see the county’s messaging available in? What ways do you like to receive your municipal content?"

In response, 75 per cent said written articles, 45 per cent said short blog-style posts, 19 per cent said radio spots, 19 per cent said in-person open houses, 16 per cent said photographs, and 12 per cent said display advertising.

Another question asked, “What type of county messages are you most responsive to?"

In response, 79 per cent said county decisions, 83 per cent said programs and services, 76 per cent said road and construction updates, 79 per cent said community events, 70 per cent said information bulletins.

The survey is part of the county’s ongoing work to update the municipality’s communication strategy going forward.
