First-term Division 1 Mountain View County councillor Kevin Good says he will not seek another term in the October 2013 municipal election.
During his spring open house at the Carstairs Community Centre on April 9, Good said he has done what he wanted to do during his term. In particular, he said helping get the county's new municipal development plan in place was one of his principal goals.
“That was a big issue for me,” said Good.
The MDP sets out development rules for the entire county.
During his open house, Good heard residents express concerns about the need to improve and upgrade the 80-year-old bridge over the Rosebud Creek on Rge. Rd. 292 in the county's southeast.
As a followup to the meeting, Good had bridges put on the agenda at the April 10 regularly scheduled council meeting.
He told council that the current 292 bridge is out of date and not able to handle the large agricultural machinery now used in the industry.
“The problems with the bridge are not new,” said Good. “I think the community is looking for the most cost effective way (to replace the existing bridge).”
Councillors passed a motion instructing administration to come back with a proposal to replace the bridge with a culvert or culverts.
“I think we would prefer the culvert route,” said Reeve Bruce Beattie.
The work would also have to include changes to the grade of the road leading to the bridge, council heard.
