DIDSBURY - It was a festive night on Friday with hundreds of people filling the streets of downtown Didsbury for the annual Didsbury Country Christmas.

Organized by the Didsbury and District Chamber of Commerce, the event featured downtown stores open late, horse and wagon rides, Santa at the train station, and much more.

"Another Country Christmas has gone by but not the holiday season and Christmas cheer," said Brian Chita, president of the Didsbury chamber. "Hundreds of people were out to take in the many events and shopping deals to be had.

"There were 25 turkey draws located around the Didsbury merchants, with many customers filling out the ballot for a $25 gift certificate at each location."

Chita said the event went very well with the weather cooperating nicely.

"As always the horse and wagon rides were a big hit," he said. "With expanded routes to cover more businesses, the wagons were filled with riders all night long. The library was a busy place too, and they'll probably need help with the many sacks of letters heading for Santa's workshop."

Chita said the free pictures with Santa at the Didsbury Train Station went well. Pictures are available for pickup at the station from Tuesday through to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., he said.

"Thanks to the community for your support this holiday season making Country Christmas a success once again," he said.
