About 30 people attended the recent rural crime watch association zone meeting in Mountain View County chambers, discussing projects and plans aimed at protecting property owners from theft and other concerns.

Hosted by Olds and District Rural Crime Watch Association, the meeting saw representatives from across the region come together for discussions and information sharing.

Association president Gerald Ingeveld said rural crime watch associations continue to seek dialogue and cooperation with other stakeholders, including governments at all levels.

“With the amount of criminal activity going on in the province we should be meeting more often with stakeholders,” said Ingeveld, who is also a director on the provincial crime watch board.

“It’s essential to have that coordination and cooperation with the counties and the MDs. Things seem to be ramping up with rural crime and there are a lot of counties that are stepping up to say what can we do to be more involved.

“There is a lot of communication taking place and that is something we can really get on board with and have provincewide communication with all levels of government.”

The zone meeting included a presentation from the Cochrane Foothills Protective Association (CFPA) presentation on a new app being developed by that group.

The "Reporter" application is a web app that allows its members to report incidents wherever they see them and share information with fellow members.

The prototype of the app will be launched at the upcoming CFPA annual general meeting.

Martin Venneri, with TRACtag Global gave a presentation on the company’s stolen vehicle tracking and recovery system.

Jane Fulton brought greetings on behalf of Mountain View County to the meeting. She also talked about some of the anti-crime initiatives currently underway in the county, including five upcoming workshops.

“Mountain View County has always been supportive of rural crime watch groups. We’ve always had great support from the community peace officers,” said Ingeveld.
