Jeff Ible, the NDP candidate in the Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre riding, says he is concerned and disgusted by vandalism to a number of NDP campaign signs in Sundre over the weekend.

The words “kill” and “death” were scrolled across the signs posted on Main Avenue in Sundre.

“I’ve talked to the RCMP,” said Ible. “It is very disturbing and troubling. It’s threatening regardless of your political views. There is a way to conduct rational and mature discourse and defacing signs is not a way to do that.”

The fact the words were written over Rachel Notley’s name is particularly troubling, he said.

“The fact that it is targeting a woman represents to me this undercurrent of violent misogyny that unfortunately still exists in our society,” he said.

“I don’t think women need to see a death threat against another woman on a main street in Sundre.”

Incumbent United Conservative MLA Jason Nixon also called the vandalism wholly unacceptable.

“This defacement is disgusting and I denounce it in the strongest possible terms," said Nixon.

A call to RCMP seeking comment was not immediately returned at press time Monday.
