DOGPOUND – The 114th annual Dogpound Stampede rodeo on July 17 and 18 enjoyed great weather and equally great competition, say officials.

Held at the Dogpound Stampede Grounds just off Highway 22 south of Cremona, the rodeo consisted of a local invitational ranch rodeo on the 17th and the full Foothills Cowboy Association (FCA) rodeo on the 18th.

“The turnout was great and the weather was perfect, not too hot and no rain,” said secretary Patricia McKean.

There were about 200 competitors at this year’s rodeo. As in past years, the many volunteers involved were key to the success of the two-day event, she said, noting that the rodeo competition was top-rate again this year.

The FCA rodeo included bareback, saddle bronc, steer wrestling and other events.

Top finishers at the FCA rodeo were as follows:

• Quinton Van Straten scored a 6.5-second time to win the steer wrestling event, with Wyatt Wilson finishing second with a 9.9-second time, and Lane Dixon third with an 11-second run.

• Nathan Garlick scored a 65 score to win the bareback event, with Allen Fletcher finishing second with a 64 score.

• Holden Atkinson won the Jr. steer riding event with a 71 score. Griffin Koester finished second with a 69 score, and Gordon Erickson finished third with a 67 score.

• Adam Shuckburgh won the calf roping event with a 9.1-second time. Ben Bamford and Blayde Melaney tied for second/third with a 9.5-second time, and Danny Finnerty finished fourth with a 10.3-second time.

• Mark O’Dempsey scored a 74 to win saddle bronc, with Jared Mercer finishing second with a 69 score, and Dan Turnbull and Jake Vernon tied for third/fourth with 63 scores.

• Ryder Koehler and Asa Johnson won team roping with a 5.4-second time, and Travis Kellertt and Mike Smith finished second with a 5.6 time.

• There were no qualified rides in bull riding.
