The designated growth centres around towns within Mountain View County may be a necessary evil, but they should be smaller in size, focused more on commercial-industrial rather than residential development, and should not become ìtowns outside the towns.îThose were some of the summary comments made during last week's roundtable workshops on the MVC Municipal Development Plan.ìOne of the comments was the size of the growth centres ñ don't box the towns in; the towns need to grow too,î Div. 7 Coun. Al Kemmere said Tuesday at Reed Ranch School.Kemmere reported the same sentiment the following night in Cremona, where participants also raised the issue of ìthe growth centre that isn't there ñ Cremona.îìCremona needs help,î was one comment made at the table facilitated by Reeve Paddy Munro.ìWhat we really did talk about was helping Cremona grow,î Munro (Div. 6) said during the summaries that concluded the roundtable session.ìIt might even be a different kind of growth centre (where) the county might get less Ö to help Cremona get the tax base it needs to grow.îAt both workshops, participants rejected as too high the current MDP's potential maximum density of 80 to 240 lots per quarter within the growth areas.ìTake it down to 60, but you've got to be giving something back, and put it on marginal land,î Kemmere said.In general, Munro said at Reed Ranch, ìI wouldn't say people are totally happy with the whole thing, but they think we should get a handle on itî in terms of aesthetics, servicing and densities.More than 100 people participated in the first two roundtable sessions.
