Mountain View County councillors have approved levels of service that will be provided by the various fire departments in the district.During last week's council meeting, councillors were presented with a spreadsheet outlining the capabilities of the Olds, Sundre, Cremona/Water Valley, Carstairs and Didsbury departments. The five local fire chiefs have collaboratively outlined the level of service spreadsheet provided by Mountain View County, administration said in a note to council.“Establishing the levels of service that MVC requires our local fire departments to provide is integral to meeting the needs of our residents. Approved levels of service are important to ensure that additions or modifications to these service levels are approved by council, and properly budgeted for.“After the fire agreements are renewed with our urban partners, the county's existing fire bylaw will need to be updated and consolidated. Upon completing these updates the level of service document could potentially form a schedule to the bylaw.”According to the spreadsheet, all five departments can provide service for structural fires, wildland fires, aircraft fires, airport hangar fires, incident command services, disaster service first response, motor vehicle collision extrications, hazardous materials response, confined space rescue, downed power line/electrical hazard, natural gas leaks, farm equipment extrication, pipeline/oilfield response, medical responses, and fire investigations. Some departments can provide other services for all department areas, including ice rescue by Sundre and Cremona departments, swift water rescue by Sundre and Cremona, trench rescue by Didsbury, Olds and Sundre, rope rescue low angle by Sundre, Cremona, Olds and Didsbury, rope rescue high angle by Didsbury, back country rescue by Sundre and Cremona, and elevated hose stream/aerial operations by Olds.
