Gleniffer Lake reopened for long weekend

Most of Gleniffer Lake was reopened to the public over the Canada Day long weekend.According to a June 28 press release from Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resources Development, most of the lake would be reopened for recreational use.

The lake was closed for recreational use after an oil leak into the Red Deer River near Sundre saw light sour crude oil flow into the reservoir.The release said the far southwest corner near Dickson Point will remain closed at this time.The reported water quality monitoring results show the water does not pose a risk to human health. The hydrocarbon levels have been decreasing and are no longer being detected.Water quality will continue to be monitored throughout and after the weekend. Shoreline cleanup efforts along the Red Deer River will be continuing.
