OLDS  - For the first time this week, the Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds – Sundre area and the Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail – Stettler area are not under a heat warning Friday.

Temperatures in the area have been slowly decreasing since Wednesday’s record-breaking temperatures of 33.9 C in the Sundre area, 34.2 in the Airdrie area and 34.3 in the Red Deer area, although a warning was still in place on Thursday.

The forecast high for Sundre on Friday, July 12 is 24 C.

According to Environment Canada, “temperatures will moderate for most of Alberta on Friday, however, some regions in southern Alberta will remain warm through the weekend.”

Heat warnings are still in effect Friday for areas east of Highway 2 including Torrington, Wimborne and Three Hills as well as areas south of Calgary.

A long-duration heat event began last weekend, with heat warnings for the area starting Sunday.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
