1986: BRASSARD WINS BIG – The Didsbury Review reported on a landslide election victory for Tory Roy Brassard in the provincial election. “Progressive Conservative Roy Brassard made his first political run a winning one, easily out-distancing two Olds-Didsbury opponents in Thursday’s provincial election. Mr. Brassard, 55, who lives near Didsbury and works as sales manage at Sundre Motors, took a commanding lead shortly after the polls closed and finished with 5,206 votes to defeat Elmer Knutson, leader of the Confederation of Regions Party (1,794 votes) and New Democrat Tom Monto (821 votes). Mr. Brassard said it was too early to say what his first concerns will be as he heads to Edmonton. ‘There are a lot of individual concerns that have come to my attention and I’ll be sitting down to analyze them and attach priority to them.'"

1982: LATEST EXCITEMENT OVER VIDEO – The Gazette reported on local interest in the new technology of home video. “The newest game in town is the audio-video craze that is sweeping North America. Spurred by the development of home video tape players and recorders thousands of people are watching their favourite T.V. programs at their convenience, screening in-home movies or playing their favourite video games. Central Vacuum Service in the Mountain View Shopping Plaza and Rip Van Winkle Waterbed Store in downtown Olds are major players in the new craze for home movies. In addition to home recorded programs, the owner of a video tape machine can arrange to rent some of the top-notch movies now playing the theatre circuit. ‘On Golden Pond’ was available in Olds last week.”
