Mountain View County Division 2 councillor and Deputy Reeve Patricia McKean says she will not be seeking re-election in 2017.

In a Gazette interview last week, McKean said she plans to serve out her current second term.

“I'm going to go back to my mortgage business and spend time with my family,” said McKean, now in her second term. “I've loved every minute of it, but I'm going to give somebody else an opportunity.”

McKean was re-elected as county deputy reeve during the Oct. 26 organizational meeting. She has held the position since first being elected to council in 2011.

The deputy reeve fills in for the reeve when necessary as the chief spokesperson for the municipality and serves as the chair of the policies and priorities committee.

Being re-elected to the position of deputy reeve by her fellow councillors is an “honour,” she said.

There is lots of work to do before the October 2017 municipal election, she said.

“I think the biggest top priority is our new agreements with our towns, to get those done and to make sure that come election time we have a good working relationship with all our urban partners,” she said.
