The Chinooks' Edge School Division has formally approved the sale of the former Midway School property.

The sale, which was ratified by the school division's board on Jan. 15, is now conditional pending provincial ministerial approval.

"I am hoping that will happen in the next few weeks,î said Allan Tarnoczi, the division's corporate secretary who declined last week to release details of the sale, including the name of the buyer, how much the sale was for, and what the building's future use will be. "I can't disclose those things because the sale is not final yet.

"You will have to then talk to the buyer to get a sense of his plans,î said Tarnoczi.

He said the former school, located on four acres of property 12 kilometres east of the QEII between Didsbury and Carstairs, has been vacant since 2010.

The school was built in 1953 and expanded in 1960.

However, the school was closed a half century later following a Chinook's Edge viability study that determined the institution's low enrolment numbers had affected its ability to offer effective programming.

After Midway's final school year in 2010, the last 30 students were assigned to Carstairs Elementary School, Hugh Sutherland School and Ross Ford Elementary School in Didsbury.
