MVC gives to camp

Mountain View County councillors have approved the donation of $11,000 worth of crushed gravel to Camp Kindle west of Water Valley.

Mountain View County councillors have approved the donation of $11,000 worth of crushed gravel to Camp Kindle west of Water Valley.

Run by the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta, the camp made the request for 800 tonnes of three-quarter-inch gravel and 300 tonnes of three-inch gravel to help finish paving at the camp.

The paving project is being done for two reasons, chief program officer Mike MacKay said in a letter to council.

“Paving the road will enable us to cut down on the amount of dirt and dust blowing in the camp as well as eliminate the mud during rainy and wet conditions. Having a camp for kids who have suppressed immunity to bacteria is a challenge and we always strive to keep our building as clean as possible.

“Paving the road is to improve the accessibility on the site for individuals who have mobility issues. We currently serve kids who have lost a leg and others who have been impacted by brain and neurological tumours that have impacted balance and depth perception.”

Reeve Bruce Beattie said the donation is a good way for the municipality to help the camp and kids.

“I can't think of anyone in the county who wouldn't support the work that they are doing there,” said Beattie.

The donation was approved during the regularly scheduled council meeting on Sept. 11.
