New movie production coming to town

DIDSBURY - Another movie production is coming to downtown Didsbury following in the footsteps of the recent Kevin Costner film Let Him Go.

The new one is called Land and features Robin Wright from The Princess Bride and House of Cards as both director and star.

The movie will be filming in town on Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2.

The production company, Three Sisters Productions, has received permission from Didsbury council to close a number of roads, remove stop signs at 20th Avenue and 20th Street, and to close the alley behind J.D.'s Restaurant.

David Reynolds, assistant location manager, said the movie is about a woman, played by Wright, travelling through the Midwest to Wyoming.

"Didsbury is going to mirror the town of Quincy, Wyoming," said Reynolds. "Alberta shares a lot of features with Wyoming. We also filmed there (Didsbury) with the Costner movie. Working with the town has always been great."

Reynolds said that the movie production will be spending upwards of $10 million in Alberta with "a chunk of it" in Didsbury.

The movie is being filmed exclusively in Alberta, with Bragg Creek and Calgary being the other shooting locations.
