Blackfalds RCMP advise motorists to stay off the highway until conditions improve
Numerous RCMP detachments are attending to collisions on Highway 2 and other main highways in central Alberta Friday morning as poor road conditions persist.
Around 9 a.m. Blackfalds RCMP advised that officers are tending to numerous collisions on Highway 2 in the Lacombe County area, from Highway 597 and the Highway 2A intersection.
"RCMP advise motorists to stay off the highway until conditions improve," police said.
The highway is partly covered with snow and there are icy sections and slippery road conditions, reports the province's travel advisory service.
The travel advisory service also noted that there are vehicles in the ditch on Highway 2 at Highway 604 near Ponoka.
Around 8 a.m., Rocky Mountain House RCMP said officers were on the scene of a serious multi-vehicle collision on Highway 11 near Range Road 45 in Clearwater County. Officers are redirecting traffic in both directions.
"Officers report poor road conditions in the area and ask that motorists take precautions," police cautioned
Police anticipate remaining on scene for several hours while emergency crews respond and police investigate.
Highway 21 south of Three Hills at Highway 27 is closed due to an overturned semi. Travellers are advised to use an alternate route.
