Local MLAs Jason Nixon and Nathan Cooper say the death of former Alberta premier and member of Parliament Jim Prentice in a plane crash in B.C. on Oct. 14 is a tragic loss for the province.

"He dedicated a significant part of his life to both our country and to our province," said Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre MLA Jason Nixon. "My heart breaks for the Prentice family. It is a real sad day. When you are a politician there are different camps, but it's also a small group of people and you get to know each other on all sides of the aisle."

The MLA for Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills Nathan Cooper called Prentice a "great Albertan."

"He was always a very genuine, caring and considerate man," said Cooper. "I also found that during my work for the official Opposition when he was the premier he treated us fairly. While we from time to time disagreed on policy, he certainly was a great Albertan and I'm very saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."
