RED DEER COUNTY – A fire advisory in place in Red Deer County since May 2 was lifted Tuesday.

Red Deer County’s fire chief, Drayton Bussiere, noted in the announcement that the change came into effect at 2 p.m. on May 21 and was due to recent cooler temperatures and rain.

The municipality is reminding residents that a fire permit is required in Red Deer County for all open fires year-round, except for safe acceptable residential fire pits.

Fire permits are now available online at rdcounty.ca/fire.

“Fire Services will continue to monitor weather patterns- should dry weather conditions return another fire restriction may be put in place,” the announcement said.

Bussiere ordered a fire restriction in Red Deer County on April 19 which prohibited all new outdoor fires within the boundaries of the county and no new fire permits were issued.

The fire restriction was downgraded to a fire advisory on May 2.

Under the advisory, fire permits were reviewed on a case-by-case basis and only one day permits were to be issued.
