DIDSBURY - Close to 200 riders and 150 motorcycles rode in the recent 10th annual Rural Alberta Ride for Dad.

The riders benefited from sunny weather and the generosity of the community as $31,000 was raised from the June 24 event alone.

Ride president Gil Enns said the total amount raised for the year is about $55,000 although there is still some time before the end of this month to raise more. Money raised goes towards research and awareness for prostate cancer, said Enns.

"The ride went really well," said Enns. "It was a great day. Mother Nature let us know she was still there by pouring on us in Sundre, but other than that it was great. We had a good ride, the roads were good, people were good. It was excellent."

Enns said that nobody won the Harley Davidson bike, which was the prize for kicking a football into the back of a truck.

"The drive through town went really well," he said. "We had members of the car club and the fire department help us block key intersections. It went really well. We had a great ride."

Enns said raising awareness for prostate cancer is very important to the group.

"We want to keep families together," he said. "If we can save one life doing this it's worth every penny. If we can get the word out for guys to go out and get tested and they have the disease and become survivors, we've kept one family together, so it's worth it."
