DIDSBURY - One of the district's largest yearly charity events has expanded to three full days.

The Didsbury Car Club's flagship event, the Show 'n Shine, will be expanding this year to encompass three days. The entire event will go from May 11-13 and is called Fuel-A-Palooza.

All the money raised from the event will be split among the following charities: Chinook Arch Victim's Services, Hope for Mountain View Kids and the Mountain View Food Bank.

Dana Munn, Didsbury Car Club president, said that preparations are going very well so far and they're expecting another great turnout.

"It's truly a show 'n shine," said Munn. "There are plenty of activities to watch as well as a lot of beautiful cars from not only across Alberta, but other provinces come in as well. With all the vendors and the events we have planned, it'll be an action-packed weekend."

The event starts Friday, May 11 with registration at 6 p.m. followed by a cruise through Didsbury up to Olds, finishing at Mountain View Dodge where there will be a free drive-in movie.

"We're going to weave through the town of Didsbury and through some of the side streets to let people that come here get a better feel for the town," he said. "We'll then cruise up to Olds. Any donations made during the cruise or at the drive-in theatre will be given to Chinook Arch Victim's Services,"

On Saturday will be the 26th annual show 'n shine throughout the streets of downtown of Didsbury. Other highlights will be the 100 foot shoot-out, burn out box, car dyno, moto-trials bike show, motorcycle stunt show, pin-up contest and more.

"We'll have our volunteers out at 5:30 a.m. getting it ready," said Munn. "The gates will open at 7 a.m. for those coming in to the show 'n shine. We have lots of vendors coming in for the day, food trucks, car dyno guys are back; it's a way you can put your car on a stand and it gets hooked up to a computer and they go through the gears and determine the horsepower and torque.

"We've got the 100 foot shoot-out going and we'll have the finals for that on Sunday. We have Billy Kohut back doing his aerial stunt bike show. We have trail bikes climbing over cars and such."

One of the new events this year is the "battle of the techs" where people build an engine and get it to start, said Munn.

"The Curves and Chrome Cabaret returns this year," he said. "It starts at 4:30 p.m. We'll have some local bands playing and some surprise bands coming. The Chevelles are back this year. They'll take the stage probably until 9 p.m. until closing at around 2 a.m."

Munn said they are expecting another 800 cars at the show 'n shine and anywhere from 4,000-5,000 spectators throughout the weekend.
