Jaskirat Singh Sidhu did not stop at the intersection where he struck the Humboldt Broncos team bus on April 6, 2018.
Sidhu, who pleaded guilty earlier this month to 16 charges of dangerous driving causing death and 13 charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, is being sentenced in a Melfort, Sask., courtroom this week.
An agreed statement of facts presented in court states Sidhu did not stop before entering the intersection of Highways 35 and 335, where the fatal collision occurred, and no tire skid marks from braking were left behind until immediately before the collision.
The statement notes there is no way Humboldt Broncos bus driver Glen Doerksen could have avoided the collision.
Environmental factors also did not contribute to the collision, according to the statement: road and weather conditions were safe, the sun did not impede Sidhu's driving and obstructions to line of sight were "inconsequential."
The facts note Sidhu would have passed five signs indicating the intersection was ahead, including a "Stop Sign Ahead" sign.
More to come.
