The case for Sundre resident Ronald James Edwards, the accused in the unsolved 47-year-old-murder case of Pauline Brazeau, has been moved to Jan. 30 at the Cochrane Courts of Justice.
The 73-year-old was arrested on Nov. 7 and is accused for the murder of Brazeau, a Métis, single mother from Saskatchewan, on January 9, 1976.
Brazeau was last seen leaving a restaurant near 7th Street and 17th Avenue in Calgary, around 3 a.m. Her body would be located a few hours later in Cochrane RCMP jurisdiction.
Edwards also served a 10-year sentence in the past after attacking and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman in 1989.
The RCMP Historical Homicide Unit (HHU) and the Calgary Police Service (CPS) laid charges against Edwards in November of last year after uncovering new DNA evidence.
This was achieved through a partnership in 2022 between the HHU and Othram Inc., a private lab in the United States, alongside work between CPS and two dedicated genealogists from Convergence Genetic Genealogy.
Counsel for Edwards appeared in the Cochrane Court of Justice on Jan. 9, where it was decided that the case would be moved to the end of the month. Edwards has yet to make an in-person appearance.
Charges against Edwards in the Brazeau case have yet to be proven in court.
