Sundre slashing leads to charges

A 27-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon after another man was slashed and wounded on a rural property southwest of Sundre on Feb. 19.

A 27-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon after another man was slashed and wounded on a rural property southwest of Sundre on Feb. 19.Timothy Munro, the son of Mountain View County councillor and former reeve Paddy Munro, was arrested at the scene and made his first appearance in Didsbury provincial court on Feb. 22.Police arrived on the property early on Sunday, Feb. 19 after a caller reported that a 28-year-old man had been stabbed.The victim, who is an acquaintance of the accused, sustained slashing wounds to his arms, neck and body, said Sundre RCMP Cpl. Ryan Hodge.The victim was airlifted to Calgary's Foothills hospital where he was operated on for non-life-threatening injuries, Hodge said.The home where the stabbing occurred belongs to the accused, and the accused and the victim are known to each other, he said.Alcohol is believed to be a factor, he said.During Wednesday's court appearance before Judge E. Creighton, the accused was released on $4,000 bail.Wearing a suit jacket, dress pants and a collared shirt, the accused did not speak during his 10-minute court appearance.His release conditions include a 24-hour-a-day curfew, except for work and other specific exceptions. Munro will be back in court March 19 for plea.
