The suspect charged in a meat-buying scam that allegedly defrauded 16 people out of approximately $60,000, has been arrested and is currently being returned to Alberta for a court appearance Wednesday.
Three Hills RCMP initiated a fraud investigation in December of 2023 involving a meat purchase scam.
“The victim arranged a large meat order with a company named DBL Meats. The company was reported to be based in Kelowna, British Columbia, and was said to provide fresh farm products to customers in Canada,” police said in a release issued Nov. 20.
Police said 16 people e-transferred about $60,000 to the company for products that were not delivered as promised.
“Investigation has determined DBL Meats is not a legitimate company and had fraudulently obtained money from the victims,” police said.
While Krysta-Lyn Williams, a 36-year-old female resident of Penticton, British Columbia, was charged with fraud over $5,000 in the case, a warrant for her arrest was issued when police were unable to track her down.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, police said Three Hills RCMP located Williams in Picton, Ontario.
“With the assistance of Ontario Provincial Police, Krysta-Lyn Williams was arrested on Nov. 28, 2024, and remanded into custody,” police said in the Dec. 3 update.
She is currently being transported to Airdrie and will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie on Dec. 4.
