Charges follow car ramming

DIDSBURY - Didsbury RCMP have laid charges against a pair of underaged offenders allegedly involved in a recent incident involving a stolen truck that rammed a police car.

DIDSBURY - Didsbury RCMP have laid charges against a pair of underaged offenders allegedly involved in a recent incident involving a stolen truck that rammed a police car.

A 17-year-old male from Innisfail has been charged with assaulting a peace officer, operating a motor vehicle and evading the police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

"The charges stem from an incident  where a Didsbury RCMP officer attempted to pull over the vehicle," said Staff Sgt. Chad Fournier. "As the police officer got out of his car, the young offender drove into the police car, which initiated a pursuit. The young offender was taken into custody in Innisfail with the help of Red Deer police dog services. The police officer received minor injuries."

The co-accused in the incident is a 17-year-old female from Calgary. She is charged with possessing a weapon or prohibited device (bear spray), possession of break-in tools, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and another count of possession of controlled substance (cocaine).

Meanwhile, police have laid charges in a number of other unrelated cases:

• A holdup at the Carstairs Co-op gas station on April 15, 2017 led police to charge Joey Harry Martinoff, a 25-year-old male from Gwynne, Alta. with robbery with a firearm.

• On March 14, Joseph Jerry Aubut, a 31-year-old male of Didsbury, was charged with mischief over $5,000 and uttering threats.

• On Feb. 23, Michael Winston Simeon, a 23-year-old male of Didsbury,  was charged with two counts of mischief under $5,000 and failure to comply with an undertaking by not abstaining from the consumption of alcohol.

• On March 13, John Edward Hornby, a 42-year-old male of Didsbury, was charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling house and also failure to comply with an undertaking by consuming alcohol.

• On March 8, David Stephen Butler, a 35-year-old from Airdrie, was charged with possession of a controlled substance near Carstairs.

• On March 24, Lara Kathleen MacDonald, a 46-year-old female of no fixed address, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 (vehicle) and failure to comply with undertaking to keep the peace and be on good behaviour.

• Stemming from an incident on March 29 in Carstairs, Kelly Joseph Neergaard, a 49-year-old male from Didsbury, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while disqualified.

• Austin Cody Graham, a 22-year-old male from Caroline, was charged following an incident near Sundre on March 10 with a number of offences, including committing theft under $5,000 by stealing a gift pack of vodka, possession of stolen property over $5,000 (Jeep Grand Cherokee), and failure to comply with probation by keeping the peace and good behaviour. Following a separate incident near Olds, Graham was also charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 (motor vehicle) and possession of controlled substance (crystal methamphetamine), driving uninsured motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle without driver's licence, undertaking to keep the peace and good behaviour, and failure to comply with probation as he possessed alcohol and non-prescription drugs.

• Desire Jade Fahlman, a 24-year-old female of Olds, was charged with failure to comply with undertaking to keep the peace and good behaviour and failure to comply with recognizance for being in a motor vehicle without the registered owner present.
