DIDSBURY - With the warmer spring weather it's "batter up" for minor baseball. The Didsbury association has 120 boys and girls signed up this year in different age groups for ages four to 15.

Many producers in the area are especially busy this spring clearing up from last year's very wet fall while preparing for planting in the weeks ahead, says Grant Lastiwka, with Alberta Agriculture in Olds.

Mountain View County's agricultural services board (ASB) has approved grant funding for local projects totalling $19,149. The move came during the board's recent regularly scheduled meeting in council chambers.

A major Highway 22 upgrade project north of Cremona is underway and expected to be completed this fall. The project will include paving, grading and the construction of a climbing lane northbound out of Cremona.

DIDSBURY - A well-known Dutch band is touring Western Canada and will be making a stop in Didsbury. Winkler Prins Harmonie is the orchestra of Winkler Prins College, a fine arts school in Veendam, Netherlands.

New federal-provincial funding for upgrades to the QE II Highway in the north part of Mountain View County is welcome, says Deputy Reeve Patricia McKean.

CARSTAIRS - A head-on motor vehicle collision on Highway 2A south of Carstairs on Thursday afternoon claimed the lives of a man and woman, both from Calgary. The collision occurred north of Twp. Rd. 293 at about 4 p.m.

DIDSBURY - A couple of local dance groups participated in the Sparkle Dance Festival in Olds this past weekend. Spotlight Dance Studio sent several dancers as did Dawn's School of Dance in Carstairs.

CARSTAIRS - A pair of students from Hugh Sutherland School took the top prize at the Central Alberta Regional Science Fair held recently in Red Deer.

DIDSBURY - Despite a strong showing on Saturday at the arena for the rally, the town of Didsbury has fallen short of its bid for Kraft Hockeyville 2017. The honour for top team in the west went to Ituna, Sask., while O'Leary, P.E.I.
