The Central Alberta Amazons continued their winning ways over the weekend, picking up two wins to improve their season record to 6 wins and 0 losses.
Mica Pettibone and Brooke VanWolde led the way offensively Saturday evening, potting a goal each as the Amazons shut out the visiting Sherwood Park Steele 2-0. Goalie Jessica Amendt turned aside all 23 shots she faced for her fourth win and fourth shutout of the season.
On Sunday the Amazons headed to the Spruce Grove Agrena for a matchup with the Stars. The Amazons outshot the Stars 30-23 en route to a 6-3 win.
Mandi Szakaly and Lexi Kambeitz scored twice, while Danielle Petersen and Pettibone chipped in with the other markers.
The Amazons, who currently sit in first place in the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League’s south division, have two home games this weekend – Saturday against the Mountain View Hericanes and Sunday against the north division leaders, the Fort Saskatchewan Fury.
Puck drop is at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
