The Penhold Amazons had a great start to their playoff season, trouncing the Calgary Warriors 6-0 in the first of best of three series.
"They just kind of dominated the whole game," said coach Val Gill.
"The girls played great."
While the back half of the first period was "a little bit flat," Gill said overall the game was strong.
Gill estimated that the Warriors only managed 16 shots on goal, while the Amazons had about 40.
There were some good saves, however, and the team got experience moving the goalie around a bit during the attempts.
Forward Mica Pettibone scored half of the Amazons' goals.
"She had a hat trick," Gill said.
Gill thought the ladies' penalty kills and power plays were looking good, with at least one goal scored on a power play.
"Our penalty kill was stellar," she said.
The team should be taking on the Warriors on March 3 for game two. Location is to be determined. If the Amazons win again they'll be heading to the next round of playoffs against the Lethbridge Junior Eagles.
