AWESOME ACTION — Ty Miller launches on to a steer during Oldstoberfest, the annual Bavarian rodeo, held this past weekend at the Olds Regional Exhibition grounds.

Oldstoberfest, the annual Bavarian Rodeo & Biergarten in Olds, is over for another year, and once again, it was a huge success, according to Gillian Grant, coordinator for C5 Rodeo, the company that led organization of the event.

"We had pretty good weather this weekend and we had a great turnout. We had record attendance again," she says. "The rodeo went off without a hitch. We had two really great rodeo performances."

There were huge crowds for concerts held each evening: rockers April Wine on Friday night and country entertainers Dan Davidson and Eric Ethridge on Saturday night.

One new event this year was ladies breakaway roping.

Two new pieces of infrastructure were also unveiled: a new announcer booth and a VIP area, both sponsored by local businesses.

This was the third annual Oldstoberfest and the fourth edition of the event overall.

Grant says it's too early to say what changes will be made for the event next year. She says the organizing committee will now take a breather before beginning that work.

"We're just excited about having a really great year, a warmer year and we're looking forward to making it better as we go on," she says.

Further details on the event will be unveiled in a later edition of the Albertan.
