The Olds Bantam Chiefs qualified for the provincial championships on Feb. 12 with a 3-2 victory over Cochrane. The Chiefs will now represent Zone 6 at the championships, which will be held March 22 to 25 in Lacombe.
The Chiefs won the two-game total goal series against Cochrane 6-3. The Chiefs beat Airdrie 9-3 in the first round of provincial playdowns.
“We came out ready for the game. We played the whole first 10 minutes pretty much in their end. The boys were fired up for that game,” said Rodney Perigny, the team's coach.
With the win on Feb. 12, the Chiefs extended their winning streak to 16. Wins over Stettler and Rocky Mountain House earlier set the stage for the game on Feb. 12.
“We've had a really good season to this point. The boys have been willing to learn offence as well as defensive coverages and it's been a great season … just because they've been willing to listen and learn,” Perigny said.
The Chiefs were to conclude their regular season on Saturday with a tilt against the Ponoka Bantam Moose. The game was to decide first place in the North Central Minor Hockey League.
