The Sundre bantam Huskies are one game away from taking home the league banner.

The tier 4 squad in the Central Alberta Hockey League swept away the competition on home ice this Saturday afternoon, when the Huskies beat 10-1 the Eckville Eagles in the first game of the best-of-three playoff final series.

"We came out really strong in the first 10 minutes — it was about the best we’ve played all season,” said Coach Andrew Perry, adding the Eagles also only had a roster of eight players for the game.

The Huskies will head out on the road this Saturday, March 17, when they’ll be going up against the Eagles for the second game in the best-of-three final series.

"Eckville’s definitely going to come out hard — they’ll be hungry for a comeback. It’ll be a different game in their barn,” the coach said, confidently adding that his squad could prevail provided the Huskies bring out their A game.

If needed, the third and final game will be played in Sundre the following day.
