The Olds Bantam Stingers lacrosse team are 2019 Central Alberta Lacrosse League champs in their division.

They won that crown by winning a best-of-three final series against the Lacoka Locos.

They're now getting ready for the Provincials which will be held July 10-14 in Calgary.

The Stingers thrashed the Locos 13-7 during Game 1 at the Sportsplex on June 25, then won the championship by downing the Locos again, 9-7 June 26 in Lacombe.

That capped off an extremely dominant season by the Bantam Stingers.

They compiled 16-1 record, which sent them into the playoffs.

The Stingers knocked the Didsbury Chargers out of the first round with an 11-5 win.

That sent them into a two-game semi-final series versus the Sylvan Lake Buccaneers.

The Stingers beat the Buccaneers 10-3 in Game 1 and 7-2 in Game 2, placing them in the finals against Lacoka.

Bantam Stingers manager Gina Belcastro says that final series was very exciting.

"Both games against Lacoka in the third round were very intense," she wrote in an email to the Albertan.

"We had so many fans at the arena to cheer us on when we played in Olds against Lacoka, which was awesome to see.

"I've never seen so many older and younger people show up to our games. We were so happy to see our community come out to support us. Thank you for coming out to cheer us on."

The Stingers also dominated in tournaments.

They won gold medals during two tournaments — May 31-June 2 in Innisfail and April 26-28 in High River.

"What a great lacrosse season for the Olds Stingers Bantam team," Belcastro wrote. These boys played so (well) and learnt so many new things over the last two and a half months.

"We are so proud of the growth of these boys," she added, noting they honed the skills they learned, worked hard and jelled as a great team.

"We truly had three of the best coaches — Adam Cappis, Walter Murray and Dan Dolinski, and trainer Julie Cappis on the bench," Belcastro wrote.

"I would like to thank all the parents as well for driving your boys to all the practices and games and keeping such a great, positive attitude and keeping the love of lacrosse alive in these boys. We sure had a great lacrosse family."
