Rod Bischke was named the province's Minor Hockey Association Executive of the Year after serving as president of Olds Minor Hockey this past season.

Bischke, who will now step into the OMHA's past-president's role, was expected to accept the honour at Hockey Alberta's BFL Awards in Red Deer over the weekend.

"There are so many executives in the province. To win it is pretty cool," said a surprised Bischke.

"It's a matter of what the Olds Minor Hockey board did as a whole group. We've implemented some surveys this past year, maintained a good budget, balanced the books and just had a good rapport with Hockey Alberta."

"It's a board award. It just so happened that I was the executive they gave it to."

When he first became OMHA president, he had a few objectives: increase communication to and from members, and develop more high-level coaches by investing in clinics.

As past-president, Bischke said he'll get to step back a little. He'll be freed up to help establish the new Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL), which will oversee the AAA and elite streams.

"It's nice too because I can focus on getting this bantam female league program off the ground for a successful first year."
