Brittney Thibeaux of the Olds College Broncos has been selected as the 2018-19 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.
This prestigious award was presented to Thibeaux during the 2019 ACAC Women’s Basketball Championship banquet Feb. 27 in Fort McMurray.
The ACAC women's basketball championships were held there Feb. 28-March 2.
The fourth-year forward from Lake Villa, Ill., continued her dominance of the ACAC in the 2018-19 season, leading the conference in scoring for the second straight season with an average of 27.2 points per game, thanks in large part to her 218 2-point field goals, breaking the record of 205 she set in 2017-18.
Thibeaux’s contributions weren’t limited to the offensive side of the ball, as she also finished third in rebounds per game (9.8), and tied for second in blocks per game (1.7).
Thibeaux posted 11 double-doubles over the course of the season and eclipsed 40 points on three separate occasions, including a 55-point, 13-rebound performance in the Broncos’ 115-77 victory over Briercrest in Caronport on Jan. 19.
Linda Henderson, athletic director at Olds College, commended Thibeaux for her efforts throughout the season.
"Brittney is an outstanding student-athlete who works very hard both in the classroom and on the court as a basketball player,” she said.
“She comes prepared to compete in every practice and in every game. Brittney's poise, dedication and determination to lead her team is what makes her recognition of the Player of the Year so inspiring.”
