The Olds College women's Broncos went down to a 77-48 defeat to the Augustana University College Vikings in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference basketball action on Oct. 24.
The women now have a 2-1 record on the season.
The Broncos trailed 27-12 after one quarter of play. At the half, the Vikings opened up a 46-29 lead.
In the third quarter, the Vikings opened up a 66-39 lead before closing out the game.
Broncos guard Destiny Whitehead, who led the team in scoring with 12 points, said following the game that it was a learning experience going up against a much more experienced Vikings team. In contrast, many of the Bronco players have only been together for three games and are still getting to know each other's strengths on the court.
“It's something for us to learn on. They've been together four or five years and we've only been together for a couple months. We're getting better every game. We just have to learn to trust each other,” she said.
Meanwhile, the men lost a tight game, 86-80 to the Vikings.
A pair of games in Edmonton on Oct. 27 against the Concordia University College Thunder was postponed due to poor road conditions.
