A charity roughstock event held in August at the Daines Rodeo grounds raised over $196,000 for programs in Central Alberta.
The money from the Glencross Invitational Charity Roughstock Event, which was spearheaded by Calgary Flames player Curtis Glencross, was distributed to the Ronald McDonald House Central Alberta and the Hockey Alberta Foundation on Nov. 23.
The Ronald McDonald House received 70 per cent of the funds raised to the tune of $136,000.
Thirty per cent of the funds, totalling about $60,000, went to the Hockey Alberta Foundation to help grow youth hockey programming in Central Alberta.
“It is incredible to see what this hard work has gone towards. These are two amazing charities that I have been privileged to work with,” said Glencross in a press release. “I am already looking forward to the second annual event.”
The first annual event was held just outside Innisfail and featured bull, bronc and bareback riding on Aug. 24. Before the rodeo a poker turnout was held in Red Deer.
