DIDSBURY - The Mountainview Colts dropped consecutive games on the weekend after beating Three Hills 13-1 on Wednesday at home.

The Colts fell 5-2 to Cochrane at home Friday and 6-5 in overtime on Saturday in Strathmore.

Colts head coach Rob Turville said it was disappointing to drop back-to-back games heading into December.

"It wasn't the results we were looking for particularly when you look at the teams we're battling in the standings right now," said Turville. "Stettler and Red Deer, in particular, they just keep putting up points and winning. It's starting to be a pretty tight battle in there."

Turville said that November wasn't the team's strongest month but they're looking at bouncing back after they return to the ice.

"We're going to have to step up and have a strong December heading into the new year," he said.

On Wednesday the Colts scored a whopping seven goals in the first period against Three Hills and followed that up with three more in the second period to go up 10-0. Mountainview scored three more in the third before the Thrashers finally got on the board with a minute and a half left.

Veteran forward Mitch Visser led the Colts with a goal and four assists, while Wyatt Gelinas added a hat trick and an assist. Damian Vickers, Kale Wright and Matthew Myatt all scored a pair of goals, while Trey Wallace, Josh Gette and Laine Rothenbusch added singles.

Ethan Woodward picked up the win in net for Mountainview.

Friday night at home, the Colts got down 3-0 after Ryan Davis, Jaeden Dowling and River Ross, with the first of his three goals, put the Cochrane Generals up midway through the first period.

Josh Gette got the home team on the board before Ross put the Generals up three again with an unassisted goal. Ross and Gette then exchanged goals in the third. The final score saw Cochrane win 5-2.

Woodward picked up the loss between the pipes for the Colts.

Turville said the team didn't work as hard as they could've in the loss.

"Our work ethic wasn't there on Friday," he said. "That was our biggest issue. We didn't show up to work. Cochrane came ready to play with their work boots on. They wanted it a little bit more than we did that night."

On the road Saturday, the Colts lost a tough overtime battle in Strathmore to the Wheatland Kings.

The Kings went up 2-0 early in the first period with goals from Kyle Bracko and Parker Keer. Mountainview fought back scoring a pair of their own from Erran Thompson and Reed Engman to tie the game.

In the second period the Kings once again went up by a pair of goals with Garret Vander Ploeg and Lucas Muenchrath scoring. The Colts once again fought back with Gelinas and Visser scoring.

Isaac Benoit put Strathmore up 5-4 with a late second period goal.

The Colts scored the only goal of the third period with Zane Leatherdale scoring a short-handed marker to tie the game 5-5 and force overtime.

Benoit with his second got the overtime winner 1:29 into the overtime period with an unassisted goal.

Woodward got the loss again in net for Mountainview despite stopping 28 of 34 Strathmore shots.

"They kept going up on us, we kept coming back," he said. "We had a really big short-handed goal with just about five minutes left in the third to tie it up 5-5. So we showed good resiliency being able to come back and tie it up.  Unfortunately, we had a penalty at the end of regulation which carried into overtime."

Turville said the Colt penalty killers did a good job but the Kings got a lucky bounce near the net to get the overtime win.

"They scored as soon as the penalty expired," he said. "Playing four on three on that big ice service in Strathmore (teams play 4 on 4 in overtime), they had a lot of room to work with. I think our guys did a good job of blocking shots and getting in the way. They just got a lucky bounce in front of the net and unfortunately the puck went in."

The Colts are now in third place in the Heritage League's South Division with a record of 11 wins, seven  losses and one tie, four points behind second-place Red Deer.

The next game for the Mountainview Colts is at home at the Didsbury Memorial Complex on Saturday against Stettler.
